The faculty process, which I underwent some years ago, was painful, intrusive and caused me to feel that I didn\u0026#39;t want to be  part of an organisation that demands such a process of individuals, and my wife was put through the inquisition as well as she had been divorced before we met and married.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EThere is huge fear among the HoB that there will be some sort of scandal if they give the green light to same sex relationships and that the Church will schism.  Perhaps they should reflect on the experience of the Armed Forces, when they were forced through legal means to accept that same sex relationships were not a disciplinary issue, with subjects open to blackmail and therefore a security risk.  All of the bemoaning from the Admirals and Generals, who said they would resign, came to nothing.  None left and if they left, they didn\u0026#39;t give the sexuality issue as a reason.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EMeanwhile, the troops, sailors and airmen got on with life, fought three wars, with LGBTI people, fully accepted without discrimination.  And the world didn\u0026#39;t stop, the forces didn\u0026#39;t fracture, instead, the cohesion and efficiency improved.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI was there as part of that experience. I took this responsibility as seriously as I could, setting up a blog to share what happened, and talking to my deanery and my parish about it. I’m really disappointed in GS2055, and wondering why we even went through the diocesan Shared Conversations – the lack of any report from the events means that they seem to have disappeared without trace, and I am not aware of any follow-up in this diocese. I feel some of the pain of my gay and lesbian friends at the vagueness of the message of a ‘change of tone’ and the continued mess around how selection processes operate. If I may, I would like to point a few interesting details that we have learned in the study of the font.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EIt is not originally from Stone; its origin in Hampstead Norreys, Berks., is well documented; it is believed it arrived in Stone in the 18thC, after being in private hands for a time. The base is 18thC. There are reasons to believe that parts of the iconographic programme are the result of a re-carving.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EWith regards the programme itself the explanation by Demetrios is very interesting and would explain some of the elements on it. We must not forget, however, that it is a Christian vessel made for the purpose of baptism, therefore all interpretation of its programme must take into account this fact. The presence of crosses in the interlacing is but an indication to that effect.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003EI am very grateful to Bishop Alan for highlighting this magnificent font.
